About the Project
Built in 2022, Wayne and Janet Kelley’s pergola project in Guthrie, Oklahoma is a showcase of rustic design and precision woodcraft. The structure features 8”x8” rough cut Eastern Red Cedar posts paired with a variety of dimensional cedar lumber, including 2×4, 2×6, and 2×8 boards—all selected for strength, stability, and timeless beauty.
Set against a natural stone backdrop, the pergola blends effortlessly into its surroundings, offering a shaded outdoor space ideal for relaxing, dining, or gathering with family. The rich color and bold grain of the cedar enhance the structure’s visual warmth, while the rough-cut texture reinforces its handcrafted character.
This project highlights how thoughtful material selection and expert execution can turn a simple outdoor structure into a functional and visually striking retreat.
Project used 8”x8” rough cut posts as well as rough cut 2” x 4”, 2” x 6”, and 2” x 8” lumber.
